Young Men's Media Landscaping Report
The way we engage with and support young men must adapt to their constantly evolving digital world. But where are they really spending their time online, and what content shapes their views? Importantly, how are digital trends and technologies transforming their health and wellbeing? A new report from the Movember Institute of Men’s Health provides some critical insights.
The "Young Men's Media Landscaping Report" surveyed over 3,700 young men aged 12-17 across six countries to map their digital ecosystems. The findings include:
Digital Landscape: 88% play video games weekly, making it the most popular digital activity, yet this is precisely where parents are least engaged.
The Rise of AI: 66% are regularly using ChatGPT for advice, information and even companionship, with implications we are only now starting to see.
Algorithm and Digital Literacy: 57% don't understand what they're being shown or why, yet these feeds shape their views. 53% want more control.
Rise of Podcasts: 49% of young men tune into podcasts weekly, with entertainment, learning, and relaxation being their top reasons for listening. These voices shape their views.
The role of Parents: Parents are trusted guides however their involvement drops precisely in the spaces where young men spend most time.
This report is a must-read for anyone working to support young men. To truly connect with them, we must meet them in their digital world, where their identities, relationships, and worldviews are being shaped.
